Mission statement:  To connect people, arts and nature!

Vision:
Nature Consortium creates opportunities for people to connect to themselves, to each other, their community and the natural world.  We foster a journey of discovery for people to find their individual passion, empowerment and action.  We believe that by creating awareness individuals will change behavior in interacting with the world.

Founding principle:
To teach environmental lessons through the creative arts and hands-on conservation work.

Why you'll love it:

Youth Art Program – free environmental art classes and science-based, but art-infused, field trips for at-risk youth living in lower-income neighborhoods and subsidized public housing communities throughout King County, WA.  Between 1,750 to 2,000 youth are served through this program each year.

Urban Forest Restoration Project – a long-term restoration, education & advocacy project in the West Duwamish Greenbelt, which is the largest remaining contiguous forest in Seattle. On-going work parties encompass hands-on restoration activities, Forest Ecology Workshops and artists “coming out to play in the woods”. Over the past 7 years Nature Consortium has brought over 40 acres into restoration by planting over 13,000 native conifers and over 10,000 native understory plants and removed tons of invasive vegetation.

Arts in Nature Festival - our founding project, which is a funky, eclectic summer festival encompassing music, dance, fire performances, wandering performers, a museum of sound, interactive arts, naturalist & restoration activities and food & drink. The next festival will be August 21st & 22nd, 2010 at Camp Long.

Why we love it:

Give the enduring gift of a tree planted in The West Duwamish Greenbelt, a sponsorship of a Youth Art Program class, or a gift to the Arts in Nature Festival Performers Fund.   All gifts are tax-deductible, and will support Nature Consortium’s mission.

Pine Trees, Paintbrushes and Performances!

Pine Trees Planted ($75- $500)  Donors and gift recipients are notified of planting, the type of tree, and its location within the West Duwamish Greenbelt. Donors receive a commemorative tree card, and the great feeling of having directly improved Seattle’s urban ecosystem.

Youth Art Program ($25-$199)
For every gift between $25 and $199, a commemorative card will be mailed to the gift recipient with a hand-written note. Donations directly fund the Youth Art Program at Rainier Vista, Yesler Terrace and Youngstown in the form of art supplies, teaching artist fees, and nature-related field trips.  Give a gift to a budding artist in honor of someone you love.

Performances at Arts in Nature Festival ($50- $250)
Donate to the Festival and know that you are helping to produce one of the most unique events in nation.  Your gift will support one performance during the 2010 Arts in Nature Festival at Camp Long, which will be renovated in time for next year’s festival.  A handwritten card will mailed to your gift recipient and you will be mentioned in the festival program.
